The Kirov Region Can Become a Center of Biotech Development
Kirov became the venue of the international conference Biotechnology as a Scientific and Practical Priority of the Development of the Kirov Region which was organized by the Government of the Kirov region, the Vyatka State University and the Yu.A. Ovchinnikov Russian Society of Biotechnologists.
Over 300 persons from various regions of Russia, countries of the former Soviet Union, the EU [planned, but no actual attendance - I.S.] and the USA took part in the forum. Those were specialists in biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, medicine and agriculture, as well as representatives of authorities, business and managers of industrial enterprises.
The first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, O.V. Morozov and the Governor of the Kirov region, N.I. Shaklein sent their messages of greetings to the participants in the conference.
It was mentioned at the conference that both scientists and practitioners of the Kirov region have made real progress in the elaboration and development of biotechnologies. The land of Vyatka has sufficiently developed scientific (six applied research institutes) and production (three major factories of the national importance: BioChemPlant plc., Vostok plc. and the Omutninsk Experimental Scientific and Production Base plc.) facilities for this.
That is, there are all the prerequisites for creating a modern biotechnological cluster in the region.
The participants in the conference agreed that systematization of innovative investment projects in the field of biotechnology will enable a breakthrough in the economy of the region and switching it to intensive development.
